Well, it is Monday!

What a day this has been--and it is not even 2:30 yet.

My day started out normal. I went to the gym, swam, got ready for work. Then things went downhill. I decided to go to Schnucks to get some breakfast. That seemed to even go okay. However, when I got out to my car, I couldn't get in! The little remote thing wouldn't work. I had this happen to a friend who then tried to open with her key--setting off the alarm. So, I decided NOT to take that route.

I thought, why not call someone at work to pick me up. But--and this is a big but--my cell phone is dropping all of my calls! What a time for T-Mobile to prove that they suck.

So, I go back into the grocery store and find that they sell the batteries for the car remote. However, I have to trade in the Raisin Bran I just bought to buy this since I had limited funds on hand. (My purse and stuff was locked in the car.)

Then, I use the last two quarters to use the pay phone and call my boss. If I haven't said before--she is great! She came and got me and then later came and followed me to the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealer so they could fix whatever was wrong.

In the meantime, I can't even get through to anyone at T-Mobile. The toll free number didn't work. The e-mail help didn't have a category for my problem. The local company-owned stores either were not open or not answering their phone. During this, I miss a call for a job interview.

I now have a car that I can get in and out. My phone seems to be working now. And it's a beautiful spring-like day in St. Louis. Well, it is Monday!

Funniest moments of the past week

Sunday, February 19, 2006
In general: the shoe thing (read post below).

In class: In European History, Mr. Berry was talking about the WWI settlement for Poland. He explained that they were given this wide portion of land so they could have a seaport. He pointed out something about Czech and how it has a major river, but a seaport was so much better. He then asks the class "For example, would you rather be in St Louis or New Orleans." Everyone just looked at him and then started cracking up. (Maybe you had to be there.)

At work: Everything involved with the Valentines Day Dance is subject to much laughter. However, one new client had us all laughing. We said we would serve the cake and ice cream at 7:00. About 6:50 a line forms outside the door (you would think we never feed these folks). At 7:00 on the dot this guy--who is first in line--strolls in the door while we were still getting the stuff together. We just all look at him and he's like "It's 7:00!" We couldn't help laughing as we showed him back out the door and let him know we would let them in when we were ready. Okay, it was funny at the time.

What is your favorite color?

As a kindergartner, Shelby seems to be defining herself in the silly ways we do as young folk. On Friday, she couldn't let me know enough that blue was her favorite color. She was excited about some paint because it was blue. She pointed out that my glasses were also in her favorite color. Her group of friends at school also mostly love blue also. She probably would have even wanted her dinner in blue--but how many blue foods are there?

Which made me think: what does your favorite color really say about you? Have any studies been done that relate to this weirdness?

I work with a guy who's favorite color was listed as teal. Teal--that's pretty specific. And also weird for a guy to be that color conscious.

I would think that pink is my favorite color. I love, love, love it. I love pink clothes, pink books, and I really, really wish my faux fur coat was pink. However, in the past when someone asks me my favorite when I am not overthinking it I would say blue. So, psychologist-couch wise, blue would be considered my favorite. I can see that--my birthstone is sapphire. My favorite crayon when I was a kid was cornflower--a pretty shade of blue.

In reality, my favorite color depends on the topic. My favorite color for an automobile is red. Pink isn't really a color I would use in decorating my home (although my kitchen is pink and green). I wouldn't go out and buy a pink sofa.

The next time someone asks, I might say my favorite color is "depends" and use the above rationale. Otherwise, does it really matter. Or, does our favorite color say something about us?

What is your favorite color?

Dork of the Year

Wednesday, February 15, 2006
Give it up. Try as you might, you will never be a bigger dork than me.

Example from today: I was probably 2 hours into my volunteer shift at Iveland Elementary school. The librarian asked me if I realized I had on two different shoes!

Aagh!!! And the next group was Shelby's kindergarten class. So, I am sure I will hear about this from the entire family.

Now, this isn't the first time I have done something like that. See, when I find a pair of shoes I like, I will buy them in about every color they come in. Thus, I have been known to wear a black and a navy shoe of the same style. Or a black and a hunter green shoe of the same style. These you can reasonably explain to poor morning lighting.

But today. Aaagh, today. Today, I am wearing two completely different types of shoe. One was a completely preppy loafer in tan leather. The other was a black skimmer flat.

I will be accepting my Dork of the Year award on a show televised jointly by the SciFi and History channels.

Busy as a Bee

Monday, February 13, 2006
I've been a busy, busy beaver today. Today is a state holiday (some president's birthday) so I didn't have to work. I got up at 5 AM and went to the gym. I went straight from there to school and was there when the library opened at 7:30. I've been working on a research project and studying for psychology.
I've also been trying to get stuff together for the History Club meeting tomorrow. I spent today doing al the stuff I procrastinated doing previously. I have typed the minutes from the previous meeting, the agenda for tomorrow's meeting, and a hand-out about the fundraisers we may want to consider. I have also met with both the marketing deparment and the registrar's office about some projects that History Club is considering. In between all of this, I went to a Lunch N Learn seminar on Arthur Miller which was worth 10 bonus points for my history class.
I sure am glad I had the day off or I don't know when I would have done any of this. Now, I am heading home to watch my stories and take a nap.

Who needs an AED machine?

Sunday, February 12, 2006
Okay, I am somewhat motivated and almost through the material in Chapter 1 for my Psych study guide. However, I get a heart-shock every few minutes or so.

There is a substitute at the receptionist desk. Every time she pages someone she uses the emergency system instead of the regular paging system. The emergency system goes over every speaker very loudly, including one that is right over my desk.

I swear I almost pee my pants every time she pages someone. I think if we have someone in a "code blue" situation we can just have her page someone instead of performing CPR and/or using the AED.

The Post should pay me!

Rarely a month goes by where I am either quoted in the Post or have something I have written printed in the editorial section. But today, the Post clearly stole my "Kiss is Not just a Kiss" posting in the Everyday section. (As if, right?).

Anyway the post has several pages on kisses, quality, technique. Not unsimilar to my post from early January.

Here is a link to the story. It's kinda cute, but most of the people the reference are under twenty. (As if they know what they are doing yet!) I think this is because the reporter did her research at a mall.

I am SNOW not motivated

It's snowing outside. It's been snowing since I walked out of the house before 7 AM today. However, its's too warm for it to stick to anything (thank goodness) and so it's just a pretty scene outside of my window at work.

Also, Erin Brochovich is on television. All of these things are distracting me from working on a study guide for my psychology test on Tuesday.

My other reasoning is that I am eating my salad for lunch and really can't work on it while I eat. Hmmm..that's just an excuse since I can obviously type and eat at the same time.

I think it's the snow. I am SNOW not motivated.

Powerball is at $250 million

Friday, February 10, 2006
The Powerball game is at $250 million dollars this Saturday. I do buy a ticket for every draw when I remember. I have had some folks say that the lottery is just another tax on poor people. That may be true for people who buy $20-30 in tickets.

However, how can one pooh-pooh spending $2 a week on this? Going to the movies cost $6-10 and provides about 2 hours of escapism and fantasy. When powerball jackpots are this outragously high, I can easily fantasize about how and where I would spend that much moolah. Who would I give money? Who wouldn't I give money? Would I buy real estate? Would I take a fantastic trip? Would I quit my job? If so, what would I do all day long? Could I start some sort of charitable foundation?

Yes, it lasts longer than a movie and at less than 1/3 of the cost!

Things never go the way you want

I should have been at a librarian conference this week. However, my instructors had scheduled a test, a quiz, and a paper due on Thursday. Thursday was the only class time I would have missed by attending the conference.

Of course, the test was postponed until this Tuesday. The quiz postponed until next Thursday. And the paper that was due--the class was cancelled and we just handed them in at the office. I could have done that and gone to the conference.

Oh well, there is always the summer conference.
