Lazy, Crazy Days of Winter

Sunday, January 28, 2007
I was such a bum yesterday. I should have gone to the library or the computer lab. Yet, laying on the couch and clearing out my DVR seemed like a better option. I am almost though everything except about 1 1/2 hour of the Young and the Restless.

I am justifying this bit of laziness with the fact that I record a lot a stuff on Sundays and Mondays (probably triple that which is the rest of the week) and needed to clear the space.

Plus, it was cold.

Another job!

Friday, January 26, 2007
I used to have 4 jobs! Ha!
Now, I have bettered that and added one more. This week, out of the blue, I was offered a freelance position for a Soap Opera website. I will be the editor of the CBS shows. Talk about right up my alley. I think I will sock away my monthly pay and next year splurge on a trip to the Daytime Emmys (if/when they ever have them in New York again).

Thank the Lord for CBS's Innertube

Tuesday, January 23, 2007
For some reason, my DVR did not record How I Met Your Mother last night. And, since I needed to kill a half-hour at work tonight, I popped over to CBS and am able to watch the entire episode online. I just hope it's not too laugh-out-loud funny so I don't disturb the patrons in the computer lab.

Anytime Movies

Sunday, January 21, 2007
There are movies that I will watch any and everytime I happen to catch them on television. They are usually "chick flicks", but they all hold that familiar appeal that is great for those Winter weekend days when you have a crock pot full of chili cooking and you don't want to move your ass off the couch.

Here is my current list of "anytime movies". They are in no particular order. Well, they are in the order that the came to mind.

Steel Magnolias
The Parent Trap (either the old or new versions)
Notting Hill
O Brother Where Art Thou
Superman (any version)
Bridget Jones's Diary (both I and II)
You've Got Mail
Meet Me in St Louis
Ocean's 11 (and 12)
Bachelor Mother
The Major and the Minor
Send Me No Flowers
Move Over, Darling
The Thrill of it All
Lover Come Back
Pillow Talk
The Notebook
Grease (and Grease 2)
Somewhere in Time
Moonstruck
The Princess Bride
Fried Green Tomatoes
Prelude to a Kiss
The American President
Love, Actually
Pride and Prejudice (the BBC mini-series version)
Sense and Sensibility
Clueless
Waiting to Exhale
Beautiful
He Said/She Said
Runaway Bride
Circle of Friends
The Lake House
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
Magdalene Sisters
10 Things I Hate About You
The Deep End of the Ocean
Age of Innocence
Dangerous Liasons
Drive Me Crazy
Never Been Kissed
50 First Dates
Kate and Leopold

Any Cary Grant movie but especially
That Touch of Mink
The Awful Truth
The Philadelphia Story
Bringing Up Baby
My Favorite Wife
An Affair to Remember
People Will Talk
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream Home
Arsenic and Old Lace
Once Upon a Honeymoon
His Girl Friday

Gosh, that's a big list! And I probably forgot a few dozen. Thankfully, my time is limited and these movies are not on television every day.

The list did get me thinking about work. I think I will swing by Blockbuster and pickup Steel Magnolias. I can show it for my Monday Movie group tomorrow. Then again, I know every line of this movie and could probably just perform it for the patients.

Wonder Woman stamps at your local post office

I just received my order from USPS.com. I wanted some "Happy Birthday" stamps for and I couldn't find them at any of the local post offices (near work, near home, near school). Ordering online seemed better than to continue to go to one of the 50+ post offices in the St Louis metro area.

While online, I also ordered their DC superhero stamps. They feature various superheroes from the comic books. My father, another superhero lover, will die when I show them to him.

When I was in the local post office, they have these matted 8" X 11" prints of the stamp along with a stamp and a issue-date cancellation of the stamp. They have them for all of them, but I would love the Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Superman versions. But, at $19 pop, probably not going to happen.

Closing Thought: There are two Wonder Woman stamps on each sheet. I am not sure who is worthy of my use of these stamps.

Hello from Snowy St. Louis

It wasn't as bad as they said it was going to be, but we received our first real snow storm last night. I would guess about 4 inches in my neck of the woods.

Snow is fun to look at. It's nice to think of the prospect of a "snow day". But, snow also means snow shoveling. Thus, this morning before work I shoveled my driveway and walkway. I also drove across town and did my parents driveway and sidewalk. It's great cardio but I am ready for a nap!

I am posting on my blog--finally--in an effort to kill some minutes of those last hours of work. Good thing is that the Bears and Saints game just came on (Go Saints!) and I just finished watching Notting Hill which is one of my "anytime movies".

Maybe I will put together a post of my "anytime movies". That should kill an hour.
