Helicopter Parenting

I've heard of this phenomenon. I've also witnessed it on a small scale. However, today at the pool was totally ridiculous.
I took Zoey and Shelby to their swim lessons. I sat near the edge of the pool, feet propped up, reading a book. Other parents were standing right above their kids in the class monitoring every move. They looked at me like "how irresponsible of you to sit reading a book, laughing out loud, and not paying any attention to your charges.".

Heck, these girls can swim. They are taking lessons to learn proper form. Heck, Zoey's been jumping off the diving board since she was three!

I am not sure what had me laughing more. My book by Chelsea Handler or watching these "helicoptered" kids crying before jumping off the diving board, followed by Zoey doing a perfect dive.
