Working in academia over the summer
Tuesday, June 01, 2004
Being at a university over the summer is both good and bad. It is slow so I am getting a lot of work done on the major project I was hired to complete. Bad because it is the only thing going and has been a bit overwhelming of late. I have five Graduate Assistants helping with the project and I spend more time getting things ready for them than I do any work on my own. I think I just need to get myself, and them, into a groove.
Another good thing of summer in academia is that the feel is a little more relaxed and the hours are a bit more flexible. I will be taking advantage of this by taking an extra long lunch today to go and see "The Day After Tomorrow". Now, before anyone thinks I am a slacker: I still came in at 7 AM today although Tuesday is usually my "late" day when I work until 8 PM. I think I will more than be making up my movie time, thank you very much.
