If Steven Greenhouse doesn't have a Pulitzer, he should

Friday, June 04, 2004
I usually do not notice the bylines on most news articles that I read. Alhtough I have noted the OpEd contributors and have my personal favorites. But, the beauty of returning to school and citing sources I have come to really appreciate the work of Steven Greenhouse of the New York Times.

He often writes about the plight of "common folk" and those who will fall into the cracks of our society. He had a great article on Monday about the life of laundry workers, people we must realize exist--I mean our clothes, linens, etc just don't clean themselves--but to whom we never give a second thought.

He has written many articles on Wal-Mart, exposing some of their treatment of workers and unpleasant working conditions (I believe he broke the story on the Wal-Mart workers being locked-in to the store).

If he doesn't already have a Pulitzer, he should be awarded one at some point in his journalistic career.
