Hidden stairways and passages

Friday, June 25, 2004
The library I work in will be 75 years old next year. We plan on having lots of hype surrounding this throughout the next school year, highlighted by the opening of a time capsule during homecoming weekend.

I was assisting someone doing genealogy research in our school's archives today and thought I would look to see what type of informtion existed about the time capsule (mainly: how do we get to it?) and other historical information about the building and library.

In some of the information about the opening of the library, one student was quoted that the "best views of the countryside can be found by going up in the tower". You can go up in the tower?! I spent most of the rest of the morning trying to figure out how one would get up there. There was one stairwell (which I didn't even know existed) that had a ladder going up to the roof (or possibly the tower). Or it could be when they put on the addition of the building in the late '60's they blocked off the access.

In addition, these hidden stairwell connected to passageways that I also didn't know existed. Hmmm...these could be the source of major pranks in the future.
