Food Network Nation?

Wednesday, June 29, 2005
Yesterday, Robyn thought about grilling some chicken breasts and putting them with an Alfredo Sauce. However, she was concerned that on such a hot summer day the Alfredo sauce might be a bit too rich and thick to be enjoyable. Shelby, her five year old daughter, suggests thinning the sauce with chicken broth and a bit of white wine! Hello--five years old! I think Shelby might be watching the Food Network just a bit too much.

On the other side, this twenty-something twit working at the Dollar General must eat out a bit too much. I was in there last week, looking for a sift. I finally gave up and asked if thye carried them. The clerks response: "What's a sift?"

What's a sift?! Doesn't anyone cook, bake or the like anymore? I thought with the popularity of the Food Network and Martha Stewart's show and it's many copy cats that people would be at least familiar with such terms and kitchen utensils. Think again...

Nepotism is alive and well at BABW!

Friday, June 17, 2005
Well, I waited a week to write about this because I was made as HELL last week. Here is the scoop.

At my part-time, non-professional job there has been a bit of a scuttlebut over promotions. I have worked there almost two years. Last week, I was told by one of the employees that started about the time I did that there were promotions. I assumed she was one of them, so I wasn't too bitter about her. However, she told me that another girl (Lauren) was promoted to full-time. That I found a bit irritating.

Lauren started in November. She is a total-twit--the charcteristic dumb blonde! She used to nanny her boyfriend's sister's kid. (And who would trust her with their kid?!) I guess those folks wised up and she wanted full-time so they handed it to her. Let me note that Lauren is the biggest kiss ass in the world. She has been so far up Gail's (the supervisor) butt that I swear I can see her when Gail opens her mouth.

Well, this is bad enough that they give this to someone who has less than 1/2 the experience I and others have.

But (and this is a BIG BUT!), I found out on Saturday that the other girl who got full-time was NOT the girl who worked the same length as me. It was Sarah! Sarah has worked at BABW since about February or March. So, I have more experience than these two twits COMBINED! But, why would they give it to Sarah? Well, Sarah is the daughter of one of the managers of our department! I am sure this had every bearing on why it was offered to her and noone else.

When I questioned Gail about this (before I knew Sarah was involved or I would have really let her know how mad I was), she said that these "openings" were given to those who were qualified. (Hello, I am more qualified than the two of them combined!!! That day, Lauren had asked me questions 2-3 times in the 30 minutes our worktime overlapped). Gail further stated she didn't know others would be interested. No one can possibly be that dumb on personnel matters and be a superivor, can they? Wouldn't proper procedure say you post any job openings and then you would definitely know who was and wasn't interested and then could base it on the qualifications at that time?

Now, by "openings" BABW means they have created positions for their favorite sons (or daughters as the case may be).

And, to add insult to injury, full-time must mean that you no longer have to work weekends. Isn't that a nice cherry on top of the ice cream sundae handed to them?!

Can you say "where are the job ads"?

The Skinny Bunch

Today, I joined a weight-loss group at work. It is named "The Skinny Bunch"--a name I really don't care for as I belive it encourages "skinny-ness" over healthy living.
That said, I might like this as it is a pretty motivational group. You pay $10 to join and then have to pay $1 for each pound gained. If you have been really bad during a certain week, you can skip the weigh-in and pay $2. Nothing motivates me more than spending money on something with no return. I believe that the people with a net weight loss split all of the money. In the last session, the weight losers each won $77! I think I can get motivated with the possibility of making some dollars. And I have not had any motivation to start a weight-loss program as of yet.

We weigh in each Friday--so I'll try to keep you up-to-date.

June 1st already?

Wednesday, June 01, 2005
Oh my...it's June 1 already! Where have the weeks gone? I'm looking forward to the next week or two, as I will have some free time for myself. I hope to get a few projects done around the house and pass the telecourse I am taking this summer.

I am not putting this in writing and out on the web. Then when the end of August rolls around I can look back and kick myself for not getting ANYTHING done or look back with pride. Hopefully it will be the latter.
