Memorial Day

Monday, May 31, 2004
I went to Forest Park today which is looking fabulous with all of the work that has been done to update the park. We had lunch at the Boat House--very good Ceasar Salad with Grilled Salmon. The wait person was efficient, friendly and yet not hovering. I would definitely recommend this to anyone at any time as they do have a pretty varied menu.

It was a beautiful day and we ate outside. We could not resist taking a ride on the paddle boats. This was a dumb move on my part. These are not designed for anyone over 6 feet tall. I could not get my legs to do the peddles properly so I had to crook my one leg to the side. And I was wearing a dress. Thankfully it was pretty long and covered most everything. However, a few breezes might have revealed more than I wanted.

It was packed--it took me almost 15 minutes to get out the park. Then it was on to the part-time job for a 2 PM to 8 PM shift (where I am now). I had to keep telling myself as I drove here with the sunroof open "time and a half, time and a half, time and a half".

Is Pat Boone crazy?

Sunday, May 30, 2004
I know, I hear a resounding "Pat who?". I would say he is Debby Boone's father, but that might lead to a bunch of "Debby who?!"

Well, Pat Boone is someone who is now refusing to watch CBS after 60 Minutes II was the first to broadcast photos and film from the Abu Ghraib prison, according to Friday's Page Six. This is the piece:

May 28, 2004 -- PAT Boone says he'll never watch CBS again because "60 Minutes II" aired images of the Abu Ghraib prison abuse. The squeaky-clean crooner claims that showing those pictures has made the U.S. more of a target than ever. "For me, CBS has become 'the enemy within,' and I hope never to watch the network again," Boone wrote in a letter to conservative NewsMax.com. Boone the famously bland singer who was once criticized for singing cleaned-up versions of songs made popular by black singers (he changed Fats Domino's "Ain't That a Shame" to "Isn't That a Shame") goes on to say: "I think most Americans ought to reflect on the results of their irresponsible and unpatriotic behavior and perhaps narrow their viewing options by one network. The next time America or Americans suffer at the hands of terrorists, thank CBS."

Pat Boone really has the “shoot the messenger” mentality going here. Is Mr. Boone more upset by what happened or more upset that the American public has the knowlege of the prison abuses? In addition, he calls CBS unpatriotic. However, Mr. Boone, what is actually unpatriotic is thinking your country has no faults--that "America is right" no matter how wrong. Your way of thinking is is not patriotic, it is nationalistic—something those on the right seem to often confuse!!

Hello

Well, if everyone else is gonna have one of these blogs why can't I?

It might be good just to type out some of my thoughts (where possibly no one will read them) instead of e-mailing my "rant du jour" to my friends and family.
